Achraf Hakimi took centre-stage with a brace after Romelu Lukaku’s opener, as Inter continued to build momentum by beating Bologna 3-1.
The Nerazzurri were coming off big wins against Sassuolo and Borussia Monchengladbach, with a Champions League showdown against Shakhtar Donetsk coming up, so rested Lautaro Martinez. Bologna changed tactics to 3-4-1-2 without injured Riccardo Orsolini, Federico Santander, Stefano Denswil, Mitchell Dijks, Andrea Poli and Andreas Skov Olsen.
Lukasz Skorupski palmed away a Stefan de Vrij header on a corner, but Romelu Lukaku opened the scoring in a slightly chaotic move.
He at first swung and scuffed the Ivan Perisic cross, but got his bearings quickly to fire the loose ball into the roof of the net, despite an attempted goal-line clearance.
Bologna had attempts on target, but too meek, from Musa Barrow and Jerdy Schouten, while Inter failed to make the most of a counter-attack two-on-one, as Skorupski rushed out to clear from Lukaku.
The hosts did double their lead on the stroke of half-time with a well-worked goal. Marcelo Brozovic floated a wonderful ball over the top, Hakimi sprung the offside trap for a great first touch, sliding past the on-rushing Skorupski.
Alexis Sanchez went on a sprint counter from his own half to force a great low save out of Skorupski, but the goalkeeper excelled himself with a well-timed sprint off his line and sliding tackle on Lukaku from 12 yards.
Bologna were a little better in the second half, especially after switching back to a four-man defence, and pulled a goal back. Rodrigo Palacio acrobatically flicked it on to the by-line for Nico Dominguez, who rolled across the face of goal for unmarked substitute Emanuel Vignato.
However, Inter restored their two-goal cushion with the second from Hakimi, who cut inside and bent a left-foot stunner into the far bottom corner.
Bologna kept trying and Roberto Soriano struck the side-netting from a corner, then in stoppages Samir Handanovic needed a double save on Dominguez and Vignato.
