Parma ended their goalless streak at the Tardini, but fumbled a 2-0 lead in this costly relegation tussle with Udinese.
Graziano Pellè, Roberto Inglese and Valenti were still out of action for the hosts, with Gervinho and Jasmin Kurtic in the stands, reportedly due to disciplinary measures. Gerard Deulofeu, Mato Jajalo, Ignacio Pussetto and Fernando Forestieri missed the trip. Samir pulled out during the warm-up, making way for Kevin Bonifazi.
It took under three minutes to break the deadlock, as Giuseppe Pezzella whipped in a cross from the left for the towering Andreas Cornelius header, his first Serie A goal since August 2. It remarkably ended a run of eight consecutive home games without Parma finding the back of the net, so they avoided matching the all-time Serie A record of nine set by Sampdoria in 1972.
Yann Karamoh almost created a second moments later, his ball flashing across the six-yard box with nobody able to get the tap-in.
Pezzella then provided another cross for a Cornelius header from a couple of yards, but Juan Musso managed to fingertip it onto the crossbar.
Marvin Zeegelaar wasted a huge opportunity by shinning over after Fernando Llorente knocked on a cross, but it was mainly Parma and Rodrigo Becao dived into the tackle too late on Valentin Mihaila for an inevitable penalty. Musso almost got his fingertips to it, but Juraj Kucka converted to double Parma’s lead.
Parma could then defend and counter, which Mihaila did by forcing a one-handed Musso save at the near post.
Kucka’s ferocious strike arrowed wide straight after the restart, but Udinese got back into it when Rodrigo De Paul dinked a perfect pass onto the head of substitute Stefano Okaka, scoring against his old club.
Mihaila volleyed over under pressure after a give-and-go in the box, while Udinese had the ball in the net again with a Thomas Ouwejan header on another splendid De Paul assist, but it had gone out of play before the cross.
Ouwejan was involved in the equaliser moments later, because his free kick was whipped right onto the head of Bram Nuytinck from six yards at the near post to complete the comeback from 2-0 to 2-2.
It was wide open with both teams going for the win, as Ilija Nestorovski’s header was off target, Riccardo Gagliolo missed a huge chance with his volley wide of the back post on a Cornelius cross and the Wylan Cyprian free kick skimmed the top corner.
