Serie A Week 4 - 23 Sep 2012 (14.00 UK)
Bologna 1 - 1
Gilardino 9 (B), Quintero 41 (P)
Stadio Renato Dall’Ara

Ivan Pelizzoli came off the bench to save an Alessandro Diamanti penalty as 10-man Pescara earned their first point of the season at Bologna.

The Rossoblu were brimming with confidence after a remarkable comeback from 2-0 down to beat Roma 3-2 at the Olimpico, ending their run of two straight defeats. Pescara were still looking for their first point of the campaign and had to do without Cristian Terlizzi due to a two-match ban and the injured Simone Romagnoli.

This was the first ever Serie A meeting between these clubs and Alessandro Diamanti nearly got a goal, as his early cross-shot grazed the bar.

Bologna broke the deadlock after nine minutes thanks to some awful defending from the Delfini. Alberto Gilardino was allowed acres of space to turn in a Gyorgy Garics cross from eight yards when totally unmarked. However, replays suggest he was marginally offside.

Mattia Perin needed a tough save to deny Diamanti’s angled drive at the near post, then flew to have his palms stung by Panagiotis Kone. Pescara also had chances, as Emanuele Cascione’s glancing header and a Juan Fernando Quintero angled drive whistled wide.

Diamanti had the ball in the net after play had already been stopped.

Pescara got their equaliser thanks to a magnificent free kick from Colombian Quintero, which was curled over the wall into the near top corner.

Federico Agliardi prevented the visitors turning it around completely moments later, as he did well to stop Ante Vukusic’s counter-attack. In stoppages Gianluca Caprari’s angled drive whistled past the upright with nobody able to get a crucial deflection.

Diamanti had penalty appeals for a handling offence when his free kick hit the wall, but the referee waved play on.

Gilardino surged forward on the counter-attack and Perin rushed off his line to close him down, but could only earn a penalty and red card for his team. Diamanti stepped up and took a decent spot-kick, but substitute goalkeeper Ivan Pelizzoli was at full stretch to push it off the line! It was a perfect introduction for the ex-Roma shot-stopper.

Pelizzoli also smothered a Gilardino strike set up by the Henry Gimenez through ball as Pescara survived a late Bologna onslaught to earn their first point of the season.
