Serie A Week 26 - 25 Feb 2013 (20.00 UK)
Lazio 2 - 0
Radu 29 (L), Lulic 35 (L)
Stadio Olimpico

Two wonderful strikes from Stefan Radu and Senad Lulic gave Lazio a 2-0 victory over Pescara.

The capital club went into the match looking for the victory that would take them above the Milan clubs and into third place, and they did so with Sergio Floccari leading the line on his own. The Delfini meanwhile came into the game deep in the relegation places, and were hoping for the three points that would see them go to within two points of safety.

Despite the League positions however, it was actually the away team who started the brighter. Birkir Bjarnason and Mervan Celik were creating and causing trouble around the Biancocelesti box, but it was Emmanuel Cascione who had the best chance, only for his deflected to be saved by Federico Marchetti.

Quality eventually showed though, and the hosts soon began to take the game by the scruff of the neck. Hernanes went close with a 20 yard effort, and it was from the same distance that Vladimir Petkovic’s men broke the deadlock – Lulic found Radu on the left-hand side of the area, and the Romanian smashed home a first time effort straight past the on-looking Ivan Pelizzoli.

Anything Radu could do however, Lulic could do better. With 35 minutes gone it was the Bosnian who chanced his arm at a long-range effort, and once more, Pelizzoli was helpless as the ball crashed off the underside of the bar and in for a half-time lead.

After the break, Cristiano Bergodi’s men upped their efforts and produced a prolonged period of possession. Despite a monopoly of the ball however, clear chances were at a real premium for the Adriatico side.

Elvis Abbruscato had a number of long-distance efforts that flew over, whilst Mervan Celik tried to latch on to the end of crosses – but the visitors were having no luck in front of goal.

Lazio meanwhile were cruising through the second  45 with only Hernanes showing any true class on the ball. And it was his superb ball that set up Floccari for what should have been a third - the 31-year-old though, could only fire straight at the goalkeeper from inside the area.

That third was not needed however, as the capital club held out for the win and cemented their place in the top three.
