Bankrupt bottom club Parma caused the upset of the season by beating leaders Juventus 1-0 at the Tardini!
They had lost just one game all season, 1-0 deep into stoppages against Genoa.
The Serie A leaders made numerous changes to prepare for the Champions League quarter-final with Monaco, just days after crushing Fiorentina 3-0 in the Coppa Italia semis. Carlos Tevez and Andrea Barzagli were rested due to muscular problems, while Andrea Pirlo, Paul Pogba, Kwadwo Asamoah, Martin Caceres and Romulo were injured. The Ducali were under administration and not paid since July 2014, but over the last two games had held Inter 1-1 at San Siro and beaten Udinese. Alessandro Lucarelli continued his ban.
Parma started stronger, but as time wore on Juve increased the pressure and Antonio Mirante was at full stretch on a Roberto Pereyra strike, while Claudio Marchisio’s screamer was charged down.
Ishak Belfodil was dangerous on the counter, his rising finish across the face of goal skimming the far top corner.
Mirante performed a stunning reaction save with his foot to keep out Arturo Vidal’s header at the back post from a well-worked Marchisio free kick. The goalkeeper again used his legs on Kingsley Coman’s angled drive.
Parma started the second half brightly and took a shock lead, as Ishak Belfodil burst down the right and pulled back for Jose Mauri to smash into the roof of the net from just inside the box.
The Ducali more than held their own at the Tardini and went for a second, Varela’s effort charged down, despite some players collapsing with cramp. Juve struggled to mount much of a comeback and failed to create a genuine scoring opportunity.
