SERIE A MATCH REPORT

Serie A Week 6 - 27 Sep 2015 (14.00 UK)
Bologna 1 - 2 Udinese
Mounier 31 (B), Badu 61 (U), Duvan Zapata 85 (U)
Stadio Renato Dall’Ara

Udinese ended their crisis by fighting back from a goal down to grab all three points in Bologna.

This was an early relegation dogfight, as the Rossoblu were finally buoyed by their first win of the season, but the Friulani lost four on the bounce with patron Gino Pozzo warning “our patience has limits.”

Godfred Donsah missed out for the hosts, while Guilherme, Alexander Merkel and suspended Bruno Fernandes didn’t make the trip, but Panagiotis Kone returned from his ban and Emanuele Giaccherini got his first start.

The last time this fixture was played in February 2014, Udinese emerged 2-0 winners. They hadn’t lost at the Dall’Ara since a 2-1 result in September 2010, notching up two wins and a draw.

Marquinho’s free kick was straight into the wall and Bologna lost Giaccherini to injury early on, introducing Franco Brienza.

Bologna broke through with Anthony Mounier celebrating his birthday in style, tapping in at the back post after Luca Rizzo nutmegged Manuel Iturra to roll across the six-yard box.

Marquinho flashed an angled drive across the face of goal, while Bologna threatened a second when Brienza blasted over.

Francesco Lodi made his Udinese debut, having signed on this week as a free agent. The Friulani did get back on level terms, as Emmanuel Agyeman Badu ran on to a long Edenilson pass and sprung the offside trap. His first effort was straight at the goalkeeper, but a lucky ricochet allowed him a second bite.

Bologna should’ve gone back in front, but Franco Brienza didn’t take his shot quickly or set up Mattia Destro, eventually getting closed down at the near post.

Udinese also threatened, the defenders scrambling clear after Duvan Zapata and Antonio Di Natale couldn’t quite get the final touch.

The strikers did eventually combine late on to turn the game around, as Di Natale’s delightful chipped pass was fired in from seven yards by Duvan Zapata. The Colombian didn’t get to celebrate, as he immediately crumpled to the ground with a muscular problem.
