A splendid Nicola Sansone free kick and Giorgio Chiellini’s early dismissal saw Juventus capitulate to Sassuolo.
The Bianconeri were still seeking consistency and visited the Mapei Stadium, Simone Zaza’s old hunting ground, while Domenico Berardi faced the side he’ll probably join next season or even in January. Stephan Lichtsteiner, Martin Caceres, Roberto Pereyra and Kwadwo Asamoah all missed out, while the hosts had Andrea Consigli suspended and Luca Antei injured. Claudio Marchisio pulled out late on with flu symptoms.
The Neroverdi had never beaten Juve, managing only a 1-1 home draw in four meetings, but were ahead of the giants in the table.
Sassuolo had the stronger start and took the lead with a splendid free kick. Everyone was expecting Berardi to go far post, so instead Nicola Sansone curled into the near top corner, leaving Gigi Buffon rooted to the spot.
Paul Pogba unleashed an absolute screamer from distance, which Gianluca Pegolo fingertipped out from under the bar.
Juventus went down to 10 men, as Giorgio Chiellini received his second yellow card for going through the back of Berardi. He had been booked after just four minutes for dissent.
After the restart, Pogba drilled wide of the near stick and Juan Cuadrado tested Pegolo at the near post, as Juve pinned Sassuolo back despite being down to 10 men.
However, despite playing better in the second half, the Bianconeri were unable to get themselves back into the game, trying only from distance with Hernanes and Mario Lemina.
Sassuolo really should've had Francesco Acerbi sent off after 77 minutes, as he went elbow-first into Dybala's face, but instead Pogba was booked for dissent.
