Joe Hart fumbled an Atalanta corner on his debut and Torino were beaten by a Franck Kessié penalty.

All eyes were on England Number One Hart for his Granata debut following a surprise move from Manchester City. The problems, however, were up front with Andrea Belotti and Adem Ljajic injured. Josef Martinez and Maxi Lopez started despite not being 100 per cent fit, but Mirko Valdifiori was thrown straight into midfield after the Napoli transfer. Atalanta had lost both opening rounds and had Carlos Carmona suspended.

Torino had won four of their previous five meetings with Atalanta, home and away, unbeaten in Bergamo since a 2-0 result in September 2013.

Marco Sportiello flew to fingertip a Marco Benassi screamer out from under the bar, but there was a huge double chance for Atalanta on 20 minutes.

Franck Kessié shrugged off two defenders to force Hart into a very difficult save at the near post, then on the rebound Abdoulay Konko’s attempt was charged down.

Kessié threatened again with an angled drive, but this time it hit the side-netting. Toro Coach Sinisa Mihajlovic was sent off for dissent after 33 minutes, having kicked a water bottle in frustration.

Cristian Molinaro pounced on a loose ball and his angled drive was kept out by Sportiello’s feet.

The game really sprung into life after the restart, as first Iago Falque curled a free kick into the near top corner, leaving Sportiello rooted to the spot, perhaps because he was unsighted by the wall.

Moments later Hart made the first error of his Serie A career, flapping at a corner so Andrea Masiello tapped in the rebound from six yards.

Marco D’Alessandro did well to control a Gomez pass on the counter, but lost his balance for the finish one-on-one with Hart. Alberto Grassi, who returned on loan from Napoli, hit a spectacular scissor-kick volley over the bar.

Lucas Boye turned defenders inside out before forcing a save out of Sportiello, but Lorenzo De Silvestri clumsily brought down Papu Gomez for a penalty. Kessié stepped up and sent Hart the wrong way to convert and put Atalanta in front.
