According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Inter are furious with their defender Francesco Acerbi and will part company with the experienced centre-back if he’s found guilty of racist abuse.

The 36-year-old was heard by FIGC Prosecutor Giuseppe Chinè on Friday morning and risks at least a ten-game ban if found guilty of racist abuse.

The Napoli centre-back accused Acerbi of calling him a ‘neg**’ during Sunday’s Serie A game at San Siro. Juan Jesus said Acerbi had apologised on the pitch, but the Nerazzurri defender denied the allegations the following day.

Acerbi insisted during Friday’s hearing with Chinè that he hadn’t said anything racist to Juan Jesus.

However, according to Gazzetta, Inter are furious with their defender, not just for the incident itself, but also for the way he handled the matter publicly. According to the report, Acerbi’s agent Federico Pastorello suggested media exposure, which Inter didn’t like.

Of course, if Acerbi is found guilty of racism, the Nerazzurri would be even more upset, as such behaviour goes against the club’s founding principles. Even if no decision over the defender’s future will be made until Chinè gives his verdict next week, Gazzetta anticipates that the Nerazzurri will part company with the 36-year-old if he’s found guilty.

Acerbi’s contract runs out in June 2025, so the Nerazzuri would need to find a way to offload the defender.
