Pressure mounts on Milan coach Stefano Pioli ahead of Thursday’s Europa League quarter-final second leg against Roma as Gazzetta claims the Italian tactician will likely leave in the summer if he fails to qualify for the semis.

Milan have two key games ahead. On Thursday, they’ll visit Roma in the second leg of the Europa League quarter-finals before meeting Inter in the derby della Madonnina on April 22.

Pressure on Pioli

The Rossoneri must avoid defeat against the Nerazzurri to prevent them from winning the 20th Serie A title on Monday night, but according to Gazzetta, the priority for the club lies in the Europa League.

According to the report, Pioli will likely be sacked at the end of the season if he fails to secure a spot in the semi-finals.

Milan have never been credible title contenders this season and were eliminated quite early from the Champions League and the Coppa Italia.

Another disappointment in the Europa League would prompt the club to look for a different coach for 2024-25 and the pink paper confirms Zlatan Ibrahimovic will have a key role in the decision.

Milan director Giorgio Furlani spoke to DAZN on Monday but didn’t give a definitive verdict on the team’s results this term.

What Furlani said

“It’s too early to tell. We are doing better than last season, as we have an extra 12 points. It’s just a pity we went out of the Champions League, but it was a difficult group. We always start off trying to win,” he said.

“Our job is to give the coach the most competitive squad possible to achieve certain targets. Milan always aim to win, but the truth is we can’t do it every year. The Champions League is a regret, but we’ll do everything to have a better result next year.”
