Roma’s announcement came in the morning of a Europa League quarter-final second leg against Milan at the Stadio Olimpico. The Giallorossi beat their Serie A rivals 1-0 at San Siro last week.

De Rossi replaced José Mourinho in January signing a contract until the end of the season. He has won 11 games from 16 across all competitions with three draws and two defeats.

Roma ranked ninth in the Serie A table when the former Italy international took over, and they are now fifth, fighting for a Champions League place.

The Giallorossi have scored 35 goals in 16 games under the 2006 Italy World Cup winner, conceding 16.
