Cesare Prandelli celebrated after Italy defeated world and European champions Spain. “We certainly didn't look bad against them.”
The last two winners of the World Cup faced off in an international friendly at the Stadio San Nicola in Bari.
Riccardo Montolivo's goal was cancelled out by a soft Xabi Alonso penalty before Alberto Aquilani's late deflected equaliser.
“We have to take it the right way. We showed grit and sharpness, so played well. However, we've got to work more, because we lost our organisation for a while when tiredness set in,” said the Coach.
Antonio Cassano wore the captain's armband in his hometown stadium.
“We showed character, courage and perhaps too much respect. Cassano gave no reference points, hit at the right time and I'm happy for him. It's one of his best performances for Italy.
“Mario Balotelli did well and the important thing is even a few minutes can give you a good indication.”
It was a marvellous victory considering Prandelli started his Italy era noting he wanted to emulate Spain's style of football.
“We are working to play in a certain way. Obviously there was a difference, as Spain have been using this style for many years, but we certainly didn't look bad against them.”
