Zanetti sees improved Inter

Inter captain Javier Zanetti has hit back at the club's doubters. "We're stronger than last season."

Few are tipping the Nerazzurri to win the title this term given that Milan are widely considered as favourites.

Zanetti, though, has told the Gazzetta dello Sport that he's confident his Benemata will be a contender.

"Inter are stronger than they were," he noted.

"It is true that we have lost Samuel Eto'o this year, but we have got Diego Milito and Walter Samuel back to full fitness. They are two fundamental returns for us."

Inter have also been boosted by the arrivals of Mauro Zarate from Lazio and Atletico Madrid striker Diego Forlan.

"Zarate can't be marked out of a game," added the Argentine. "Meanwhile, Forlan's free-kicks are formidable."

There has also been a change of Coach for the second consecutive summer after Leonardo was replaced by Gian Piero Gasperini.

"I was surprised by Leonardo's decision to leave as plans had already been made for the new season," Zanetti said.

"Gasperini needs to be given the time to do his job. A bit of patience is required, but the results will follow. You'll see…"
