Antonio Cassano is set to undergo heart surgery tomorrow morning to correct a congenital defect that caused a type of stroke.
The Milan striker was taken ill after flying back from Rome with the team on Saturday evening and has been in the Policlinico's Neurology wing ever since.
Yesterday the club released a statement confirming Cassano had suffered from an “ischemic” attack and would require surgery to fill a small hole between the atriums.
It is now also confirmed the operation will be performed first thing Friday morning by Professor Mario Carminati, the chief cardiologist at the Policlinico Irccs San Donato in Milan.
The operation itself is taking place at the Maggiore hospital, as it would be more complicated to move the patient.
Cassano will be under local anaesthetic and the surgery should be concluded by around 8.00 UK time.
It's widely believed he won't be back on the football field for at least six months.
