Gattuso on the mend

Gennaro Gattuso has been cleared to resume training with Milan after further medical checks in Bologna earlier today.

The former Italian international had spent the last few months working on his own as he struggled to recover from an eye problem.

The veteran midfielder hasn’t featured for the Rossoneri since the 2-2 draw with Lazio on September 9.

Gattuso was replaced in that encounter after complaining of double vision. Subsequent tests revealed a paralysis of the seventh cranial nerve.

The 33-year-old, who took part in a practice match on Monday, was examined by Professor Emilio Campos at the St Orsola clinic on Wednesday.

The doctor noticed considerable progress and the player was given the green light to resume training with the rest of the squad.

This week Dr Rodolfo Tavana confirmed that the former Rangers man was making progress in his recovery.

“His symptoms have been improving and so he has gradually been intensifying his work load and today he trained with the squad for the first time,” he stated.

“We are still keeping a close eye on the player and over the next few days we will conduct further tests.”
