Vidal sorry for Chile expulsion

Arturo Vidal has apologised in an open letter to both Juventus and Chile for being excluded from his national team’s training camp last week.

Vidal was one of a number of players disciplined and expelled from La Roja’s camp by Coach Claudio Borghi for turning up late to training after it was believed they had spent the previous night celebrating into the early hours teammate Jorge Valdivia’s son’s baptism.

As a result of missing his country’s 2014 World Cup qualifying matches against Uruguay and Paraguay, the 24-year-old today released a statement apologising for his actions.

“My dearest wish is to apologise to everyone, especially to my teammates. I realise the mistake and I hope to clarify it with coach Claudio Borghi and his staff personally.

“I have a professional relationship with them but also one of gratitude and respect. I hope that the pain I caused with my attitude might be fading, just for now I offer my deepest apologies.

“I would like to also apologise to the Juventus fans, who have shown me all their affection even in recent days. I made a mistake and now I expect a just punishment from my federation.

“My hope is to someday go back to wearing the jersey of my country because nothing would make me more happy and proud.”
