Vucinic named Montenegro’s best

Juventus ace Mirko Vucinic has expressed his delight after being named as Montenegro’s Player of the Year.

The summer signing from Roma picked up the award for the fifth time in six editions, beating Fiorentina’s Stevan Jovetic to the top prize.

“As always, it is a great honour to be considered as the best in my country,” the international striker noted.

“The Montenegro side had a very eventful 2011 which unfortunately didn’t have a happy ending, but I hope we can take a step forward in the next qualifying campaign for the 2014 FIFA World Cup.”

Montenegro lost out in the play-offs for Euro 2012.

The Montenegro Football Federation organise the Player of the Year ceremony by asking the Coaches and captains of the country’s 12 First Division clubs to vote.

Manchester City stopper Stevan Savic came third behind the two Serie A based players.
