Palermo: Viviano is ours!

Palermo have confirmed that they have done a deal for Italian international goalkeeper Emiliano Viviano.

The custodian, 26, will move to Sicily this month from Inter after the Rosanero bought Genoa’s 50 per cent share in him.

“Genoa wanted €5m for their half of the player and we gave them that,” Palermo chief Maurizio Zamparini noted.

“In three or four years Viviano will play for Inter, but he is the goalkeeper that we were missing and I hope he stays with us for a while.”

Viviano joined the Nerazzurri in the summer after they won a blind auction with Bologna for his services.

Blocked by Julio Cesar at San Siro, he was set to move to Genoa until he ruptured knee ligaments in pre-season.

Viviano is now almost back to full fitness and he wanted a January move as he aims to make Italy’s Euro 2012 squad.

The Rosanero sold Salvatore Sirigu in the summer to Paris Saint-Germain and they’ve had trouble replacing him.

Greek goalkeeper Alexandros Tzorvas started the season as first choice, but he lost his place in the team to reserve Francesco Benussi recently.
