Siena: Napoli not beaten us yet

Massimo Mezzaroma has warned Napoli that Siena’s weakened state does not mean that they are going into Sunday’s match with a beaten mindset.

The Robur go into the weekend’s clash with Walter Mazzarri’s men with a number of absences from the team through suspension and injury. However, club patron Mezzaroma is insistent that it will not deter the team from believing they can take something from the game.

“It is a shame to be facing a team like Napoli at this time. However, we know our goal is survival at this time and we must always try to win points in every game.

“De Laurentiis’ club have never won at our ground and we hope to continue this tradition. Theirs is a team full of champions and it will be hard, but with the support of the fans I am sure that we will do ourselves justice.

“Even a draw would be nice, it is important for us to move up the table.”

Mezzaroma also commented on the future of his sporting director Giorgio Perinetti, who has continually been linked with a switch to Palermo, to become Maurizio Zamparini’s general manager at the Renzo Barbera.

“I am not resigned to the idea of losing Perinetti. He is one of my employees and for him to leave there would need to be an agreement between two parties, and even then I do not think that it is his desire to leave.

“If [Zamparini] wants Perinetti then I would tell him that he needs to talk to me first. We must behave correctly as leaders, so as not to bring football into chaos.

“The credibility of football is undermined because of a succession of events off the field. We must strive to work to the correct lines of behaviour, with lowered tones, so as to avoid verbal clashes of principle.”
