Sorrentino: Each game a final

Stefano Sorrentino has warned Napoli to expect a tough challenge on Monday night in their Week 23 meeting with his struggling Chievo.

With the Partenopei in action tonight in the Coppa Italia, goalkeeper Sorrentino and his side must wait until into next week for their League clash.

With just one win in the Mussi Volanti’s last five games in all competitions, Mimmo Di Carlo’s men are under increasing pressure to turn things around to avoid being pulled into the relegation battle.

In anticipation of trying to achieve an unlikely double over the Azzurri - having won the reverse fixture earlier this season - Sorrentino today issued a rallying cry for his teammates to treat each game as a if a cup final.

“On Monday in Naples we will try to break all the eggs in Walter Mazzarri’s basket, certainly we will play all our cards,” mixed Sorrentino to Radio Kiss Kiss Napoli on Thursday.

“The League championship is long but the points collected so far are not sufficient enough to achieve survival.

“Between now and the end of the season, each game is a final and we will try to take as many points as possible against any opponent.

“I do not expect a resigned Napoli. Talk of their rotation policy? It seems to me that they are quite cheerful, with regards to the names in that squad. The second side for Napoli could easily be in any other team’s first team.

“For us it will be a tough game, but we know that in the League and at home, Napoli are stuttering a little.

“Also, in recent weeks they have had their problems with referees, so we know what sort of game is in wait for us.”

Walter Mazzarri’s men are still involved in three competitions this season, with the first leg of their Coppa Italia semi-final with Siena tonight and a Last 16 Champions League clash with Chelsea to come in a couple of weeks time.

“As a fan, I hope that Napoli can beat Chelsea in the Champions League,” reflected Sorrentino.

“If we analyse the challenge, I would say that it is both delicate and significant.

“Napoli has the trust of the public and its fans. Chelsea are not going through a very good time, but in difficulty their players can give the best. But, I think Napoli has all that it takes to go through.”
