Burdisso: Roma not built in a day

Nicolas Burdisso has asked for patience from supporters during Roma’s dip in form and also hinted that he might be back before the end of the season.

The centre-back, who has been out of action since a serious knee injury in mid-November, has watched from the sidelines as his team’s form has taken a recent dip.

With three defeats from the last four hitting hopes of Champions League qualification, the Argentine took the opportunity to remind fans that the work being done to change the team requires time.

“We are the first to know that things are not going well,” Burdisso told Roma Channel.

“But the club, team and Coach are all in this together.

“It’s a difficult period, bad results have come our way, such as that of the derby, whilst the picture is perhaps even worse with the picture in Bergamo against Atalanta.

“But here we are doing something serious, great, that is not built in a day, a week or a month.

“Now there are 12 games to finish the season well and show that this is a team with quality and personality.”

Burdisso stepped up his rehabilitation from knee ligament damage by returning to Trigoria for training this week and suggested he could make an appearance before the season is out, even if just a brief one.

“It would be great. But it would be symbolic - perhaps just a few minutes on the pitch.

“I’ve been working well for a couple of months now. I’ve started on the field and will gradually get back into shape.”

The 30-year-old also had words of support for colleague Simon Kjaer, who is likely to return to the first team fray next weekend.

“He’s a very serious guy who works a lot. It’s been a difficult year for us, especially for the centre-backs. We have all gone wrong this year.

“He’s paid like any of us for a bit of inexperience, but we all have confidence in him. This is a good opportunity for him and he is ready for the challenge.”
