Rossi: 'I could quit Palermo'

Palermo boss Delio Rossi has hit back at President Maurizio Zamparini's criticism. “I don't know if I'll leave before I'm sacked.”

Tension is sky high in Sicily after patron Zamparini bitterly blasted his Coach, confirming his job was not safe if results did not improve.

“We must remind everyone that it takes years to grow a successful team, but it only takes a moment to destroy it,” slammed Rossi.

“I don't know if I'll leave before I'm sacked by the President. We're talking about two people who work for the same cause, so it's not right to split us up into factions. We probably just have a different way of communicating.

“I do not make promises. I leave space for work to develop and achieve objectives without first declaring what they are. A piece of paper doesn't hold me to this club, as only the right foundations, elements and above all conditions can guarantee my stay.

“If those factors are missing, then I can comfortably walk away, even if I have another five years left on a contract.”

Rossi then went through the statistics to point out his Rosanero have not been doing so badly.

“From January 1 to the last game of 2010 we picked up 66 points, so only Roma and Milan did better. We scored 66 goals, beaten only by Udinese.

“This year the average age at Palermo dropped from 26.95 years to 25. We have had fewer red cards than anyone this term and are the only side this season not to have received a penalty in 17 rounds.

“We are out of the Europa League, but notched up seven points – the same as Napoli, who did qualify. Juventus managed only six and Sampdoria five.”
