Rafinha brings samba to Genoa

Rafinha says the Branco-like goal he scored in the Derby della Lanterna is just a taste of the samba rhythm he has brought to Genoa.

The 25-year-old Brazil international has struggled to settle at Marassi following his high profile move from Schalke in the summer.

When Genoa bought Abdoulay Konko last month it appeared as though they have given up on Rafinha making the grade.

Interviewed in La Gazzetta dello Sport, he said: "I was a little annoyed. Not with the fans or with Davide Ballardini, but because I didn't think I'd been that bad.

"Some people forget that I am a right-back not a central midfielder. I only played in my position for five or six games. I sacrificed myself for the rest.

"I always listen to good samba before playing. It relaxes me. It prepares me in the best way. I was certain of leaving a mark because I always manage to do it in derbies. They are my games. They know it in Curitiba or in Gelsenkirken.

"Here you breath a special air. Everyone talks about this game for a long time and there is a lot of intensity among the fans but on the pitch the derby is even more beautiful than people tell you.

"I reckon that Wednesday's goal was not only the most important of my career, but also the most beautiful," he concluded.
