The Sicilian derby is worth as much as a Scudetto for Catania. “Palermo will have to play against an entire city,” said Pietro Lo Monaco.
The general manager spoke out ahead of this afternoon's Derby di Sicilia at the Stadio Massimino.
“We are motivated to the max,” declared Lo Monaco. “We still have so much up for grabs in this campaign.
“Palermo, however, have little left to fight for now they are out of the race for Europe. I think at this stage their priority will be reaching the Coppa Italia Final.”
Catania are struggling to avoid relegation, but are constructing their safety on a strong home record.
“We have to make the most of home advantage. Palermo, like every other team that comes to the Massimino, will have to play against an entire city.”
This is also a very special occasion, as it is the first time Palermo fans have been allowed to visit the Massimino since February 2, 2007.
On that day, crowd trouble outside the stadium caused the death of police chief Filippo Raciti.
