Galliani: 'Milan top with transfers'

Adriano Galliani credits Milan's January transfer strategy for their leadership during an injury crisis. “Without the new players, we wouldn't be in this position.”

The Rossoneri went eight points clear at the top of the Serie A table after Robinho's winner at Brescia on Saturday evening.

“I am happy because we knew it would be an extremely important game, but the Scudetto isn't ours yet,” said the Vice-President.

“Brescia play well and every big team has struggled to get a result here. Now we have to focus on Sunday, as we'll be without a host of players against Bologna.

“Rino Gattuso suffered a thigh strain in the warm-up, Mark Van Bommel will be suspended, while we're missing our three centre-forwards Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Alexandre Pato and Pippo Inzaghi. We'll have to make do and try to pick up some of the four points we need to win the title.”

The club reinforced its squad during the mid-season transfer window, bringing in the likes of Antonio Cassano, Van Bommel and Urby Emanuelson.

“If we hadn't made those signings in January, we would not be eight points clear with four rounds to go,” continued Galliani.

“Milan went on top thanks to the great players we have and the additional stars in August, then stayed up there because of the January transfer strategy.

“We have a very competitive squad with real strength in depth and now boast 31 players. Without those new players, we wouldn't be in this position.”
