Macheda: 'I didn't expect Italy snub'

Manchester United's Federico Macheda has struggled to get a game for the Under-21 side. “I didn't expect to be left out.”

Former Coach Pierluigi Casiraghi often snubbed Macheda, even once Mario Balotelli was upgraded to the senior Italy squad.

New boss Ciro Ferrara looks set to focus on ‘Chico' for tomorrow's friendly against Turkey.

“I should've been called up two years ago. I didn't expect to be left out,” he told the Gazzetta dello Sport.

“I feel the Azzurri jersey as very important to me and I come here to play. The atmosphere is great and I get to meet up with old friends like Marco D'Alessandro, Marco Faraoni, Riccardo Brosco and Alessandro Crescenzi.”

Macheda's confidence is up after scoring a Premier League goal against Aston Villa.

“It was a nice sensation, as I was the only striker there who hadn't scored yet. I feel Sir Alex Ferguson has faith in me and he gives me a lot of advice.

“I want to stay in Manchester, as I feel at home there.”
