Sirigu committed to Palermo

Salvatore Sirigu wants to stay at Palermo despite the club's interest in Bari No 1 Jean-Francois Gillet.

Sirigu's future has been placed into doubt given the links with the Belgian, but the Italian intends to still be with the Stadio Barbera outfit next season.

"The player wants to remain at Palermo," agent Carlo Pallavicino told Sportitalia. "He has an excellent rapport with the club and neither side wants to end their relationship."

The 24-year-old, nicknamed Walterino in a reference to Walter Zenga, joined Palermo's youth team in 2005 from Venezia.

After spending a few seasons on loan at Cremonese and Ancona, he returned to Palermo in 2009 and is now the first choice and a full Italian international.

Gillet is in talks about a possible move to Palermo following the relegation of Bari to Serie B.

"I can confirm everything," his agent Oscar Damiani told Rete Rete 24 this week. "Palermo are chasing him and the player would be happy to go. The two clubs are in discussions.

"Jean-Francois still has a few years to run on his contract, but talks are at a quite advanced stage already," added the representative.

"There is reason to believe that an agreement which satisfies all parties will be found. Gillet would just be very happy to wear the Palermo shirt."

Gillet, born in May 1979, started his career with Standard Liege before heading to Italy with Monza in 1999.
