The Giallorossi will face Shakhtar Donetsk in the Last 16, with the first leg to be played in Kharkiv on February 21 and the return leg at the Olimpico on March 13.

“Would Sevilla have been better?” Monchi considered, speaking to reporters after the draw.

“I said before the draw I wouldn’t want to face them, in the end we have Shakhtar and we’ll see.

It was a weekend of dire draws, but some sides tried harder than others to break that deadlock, writes Susy Campanale.

Sorrentino heroics deny Roma

Roma were held to a second consecutive away draw thanks to a Man of the Match performance from Chievo goalkeeper Stefano Sorrentino.

Patrik Schick was given his first start in a Giallorossi jersey, but the former Sampdoria striker and later Edin Dzeko were unable to make the most of their many chances.

Aleksandar Kolarov was inspirational with a series of shots, crosses and assists, but 38-year-old goalkeeper Sorrentino performed heroics.

Chievo also went very close to a winner at the Bentegodi, but Roberto Inglese thumped the crossbar.
