Hiljemark set for Bordeaux

Genoa are working to whittle down their squad, with Oscar Hiljemark heading to Bordeaux and Andras Schafer loaned to Chievo.

The Grifone have been very active on the transfer market this summer with new Coach Aurelio Andreazzoli moulding the team to his preferred shape.

The challenge now is to cut down the numbers and a deal was completed today, as midfielder Schafer joined Chievo Verona on loan for the rest of the season.

Meanwhile, Sky Sport Italia claim Hiljemark is in negotiations for a move to Girondins de Bordeaux.

Delneri to make Romanian return?

Former Chievo and Juventus boss Luigi Delneri is reportedly considering an offer from Romanian club FCSB.

Delneri has been out of work since leaving Udinese in November 2017, but Gazzetta dello Sport claims he could make a comeback in Romania.

That would be because FCSB want him to fill their managerial vacancy.

Despite not having Steaua Bucharest in their name, the capital club are recognised by UEFA as descendants of the 1986 European Cup winners.

Coppa: Rog rewards 10-man Cagliari

Marko Rog’s stunner was the stand-out as 10-man Cagliari pushed past Chievo 2-1 and will face Sampdoria or Crotone in the Coppa Italia Fourth Round.

The Sardinians used a star-studded XI at the Sardegna Arena for their first competitive match of the season against recently-relegated Chievo.

Joao Pedro put the hosts in front early doors, as Artur Ionita’s header bounced off the crossbar and into the path of Joao Pedro for the tap-in.

Bayern battle for Chievo teen Vignato

Bayern Munich, Lazio, Sampdoria and Milan are battling for Chievo teenage talent Emanuel Vignato.

According to Sky Sport Italia, Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich have made their first formal offer for the creative midfielder.

The Brazilian-Italian plays for Italy at Under-19 level and will turn 19 next week.

He made his Serie A debut last season with 10 games, scoring one goal and contributing one assist.

Maran: 'Cagliari to be protagonists'

Rolando Maran admits Cagliari “want to be protagonists” this season in Serie A and the Coppa Italia after strengthening the squad.

The Sardinians sold Nicolò Barella to Inter, but brought in the likes of Radja Nainggolan, Nahitan Nandez, Marko Pjaca and will have Luca Pellegrini back on loan, this time from Juventus.

“A team’s objectives are decided by the mentality on the field,” said the Coach in a Press conference.

Official: Samp sign Leris

Sampdoria have officially signed midfielder Mehdi Leris from Chievo for a reported €3m plus bonuses.

A statement on Samp’s website confirms Leris has put pen to paper on a five-year contract.

The 21-year-old broke through for Chievo last season, scoring one goal and providing two assists in 24 appearances, despite their relegation.

Capable of playing as both a central midfielder or right winger, he has the choice of playing for France, Spain and Algeria at international level.

Coppa: Monza to face Fiorentina

Silvio Berlusconi’s Monza shocked Serie B side Benevento to set up a tie with Fiorentina in the Coppa Italia third round.

Monza won a seven-goal thriller, surviving a late penalty to beat Benevento 4-3, and face Fiorentina in the next round.

Feralpisalo, Pisa, Perugia, Salernitana, Venezia, Crotone, Spezia, Sudtirol, Cremonese and Imolese, meanwhile, all secured Serie A ties.

So did Chievo, although the Flying Donkeys needed a penalty shootout to avoid a giant-killing at the hands of third-tier Ravenna.

Samp seal Leris deal

Sampdoria have agreed a deal to sign Chievo midfielder Mehdi Leris for around €3m plus bonuses.

Serie B: 2019-20 fixture list

The fixture list for the 2019-20 Serie B season has been released, running from August 24 to May 24, starting with Perugia-Chievo.

The calendar was drawn up in a ceremony in Ascoli this evening and it’s a particularly special season, as it marks the 90th anniversary of Italy’s second division.

Serie B returns to 20 teams this year, having adapted to 19 last season due to various bankruptcies.

Milan to loan out young pair

Milan goalkeeper Alessandro Plizzari is set to join Serie B side Livorno on loan, while defender Matteo Gabbia interests Frosinone and Chievo.

Calciomercato.com and Gazzetta dello Sport both report Livorno have agreed a season-long loan with Livorno.

However, the deal does not include an option to buy as Milan are planning for the future with the Italy Under-20 shot-stopper in mind.

As for Gabbia, La Gazzetta’s Nicolo Schira writes the Rossoneri were impressed with the 19-year-old’s performances during preseason.
