It could've been different for Inter

Ultimately, Inter put themselves in a far more complicated Champions League situation than they needed to, writes Giancarlo Rinaldi.

Antonio Conte is a demanding kind of guy. Even after a three-star Michelin meal, you get the feeling, he would complain if one of the waiter’s ties was a little askew. So, despite his team sitting top of Serie A, it will have caused him major discomfort to go tumbling out of the Champions League. On a night when the Nerazzurri had to be perfect, they were far from it.

Martinez: 'Lukaku no surprise'

Belgium manager Roberto Martinez isn’t surprised by Romelu Lukaku’s start with Inter. “He’s found some strong team-mates and a great coach in Antonio Conte."

Martinez was speaking after the conclusion of the Euro 2020 draw, and was asked about Lukaku, who has scored 11 goals in 17 games in all competitions for the Nerazzurri this season.

“It’s not a surprise, we know him well, it’s beautiful to see him score for Inter the way he does in the national team," said Martinez.

Slavia demand Lukaku apology

Slavia Prague have called on Inter striker Romelu Lukaku to “apologise” after he accused their fans of racially abusing him in a Champions League match.

Lukaku scored one and set up two for Lautaro Martinez during Inter’s 3-1 victory in Prague on Wednesday night, but he claimed to have also received racial abuse from Slavia fans.

The Belgian followed up by urging UEFA to take action against the Czech side, who have now rejected the allegations.

Lukaku tells UEFA act against racism

Inter forward Romelu Lukaku asked UEFA to act against the racist chanting from the stands during their 3-1 win against Slavia Prague. "The whole stadium did it."

The Belgian forward was not happy with the treatment he got in Prague and showed it through his gesture, pointing his finger at the spectators after scoring what could’ve been 2-0 to Inter.

The goal didn’t stand, as VAR gave a penalty at the other end to give Slavia Prague 1-1, but his reaction still stands strong and he now pleads for something to be done.

Candreva: 'Inter passed test'

After the 3-1 victory in Prague, Inter’s fate is now in their own hands and Candreva was satisfied with how they hit back as VAR awarded the home side a penalty, ruling out Romelu Lukaku’s goal to hand Prague their chance to equalise.
