Official: Diamanti joins Watford

Former Bologna and Fiorentina midfielder Alessandro Diamanti has officially joined Premier League side Watford.

The Italian international spent the second half of last season with the Viola, and had been linked with a return to Bologna this summer.

However, the 32-year-old has instead decided to return to England, where he previously impressed with West Ham United.

Diamanti set for Watford

Alessandro Diamanti, who spent the second half of last season at Fiorentina, is reportedly close to joining Watford.

The Italian international moved to the Viola in January, on loan from Guangzhou Evergrande, making 11 appearances and scoring twice.

According to Sky Sports News, the 32-year-old has passed a medical with the Hornets, and is ready to join up with the English Premier League side.

Diamanti is believed to have agreed personal terms for the move, and is set to become the 12th signing for the newly-promoted side.

Diamanti considers options

Alessandro Diamanti is considering his next move, including Watford, Aston Villa and a return to Bologna.

The creative midfielder is now 32 years old and still owned by Guangzhou Evergrande following a loan spell at Fiorentina.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Alino has received two Premier League offers from Aston Villa and new boys Watford.

There is also an interesting proposal from Serie A, where he could go back to his old club Bologna.

Rafael: ‘I studied penalties’

Verona goalkeeper Rafael reveals he studied Fiorentina penalties, after saving Alessandro Diamanti’s effort.

Diamanti: 'Salah has it all'

Alessandro Diamanti praised Mo Salah and said Fiorentina “know our quality” after beating Juventus.

The Viola emerged 2-1 away winners in the first leg of this Coppa Italia semi-final, setting them up well for the decider on April 7.

“It’s a wonderful victory. Whoever goes on the field knows what to do and how to help the team. We are happy,” Diamanti told Rai Sport.

Montella likes 'unpredictable' Salah

Vincenzo Montella felt Fiorentina’s 3-2 win over Atalanta was “deserved” and praised debutant Mohamed Salah.

“We had 18 shots on goal and played better than our opponents over the 90 minutes, so I’d say the victory was deserved,” Coach Montella told Sky Sport Italia.

Salah in Fiorentina's UEFA list

Fiorentina's list of players for the Europa League includes newcomer Mohamed Salah, but not Alberto Gilardino and Alessandro Diamanti.

La Viola released their list of players eligible for UEFA competitions this morning, and the Egyptian on loan from Chelsea makes it in the squad.

Salah, who is reported by La Nazione to be expected in Florence today, is one of three new names compared to last year's list.

Montella: 'Viola deserved victory'

Vincenzo Montella felt Fiorentina “more than fully deserved” to beat Roma 2-0 in the Coppa Italia quarter-final.

This is the first time Montella has ever beaten Roma as an opposition Coach after three draws and six defeats.

“It was a great performance and I saw a Fiorentina side that was superior to Roma in both halves, so the victory is more than fully deserved,” he told Rai Sport.

Montella: 'Gomez confidence booster'

Vincenzo Montella hopes today’s brace will allow Fiorentina striker Mario Gomez to “have more confidence.”

The centre-forward had scored only one goal in eight months, but found the net twice early on in a 3-1 Coppa Italia victory over Atalanta.

“Goals help a forward and not just one who is accustomed to getting lots of them,” Montella told reporters.
