Coppa: Gomez inspires Fiorentina

Mario Gomez broke his lengthy goal drought with a brace as Fiorentina beat Atalanta 3-1 to book a Coppa Italia quarter-final against Roma.

The Tuscans, who lost last season’s Final to Napoli, will go on to face Roma in the quarter-final on February 3.

It was an aggressive start from both sides, as Daniele Baselli drilled just wide and Mario Gomez had a shot charged down in the opening four minutes.

Diamanti and Cuadrado called

Alessandro Diamanti and Juan Guillermo Cuadrado are in Fiorentina’s squad for Atalanta in the Coppa Italia.

The Viola host Atalanta in the Round of 16 tie on Wednesday at 17.00 GMT.

It is Diamanti’s first call-up since completing his loan move from Guangzhou Evergrande and he could make his debut.

Cuadrado is also in the squad despite reports he was in England to watch tonight’s game between Chelsea and Liverpool.

Diamanti debut delayed again

Diamanti has been training with the squad for over a week since making his move from Guangzhou Evergrande on loan with option to buy.

It was believed he would be making his debut tomorrow at the Stadio Bentegodi, but he is not even in the squad for that trip.

Montella: 'Media caused Gomez storm'

Vincenzo Montella blamed the media for “creating a storm” around Mario Gomez, but Alessandro Diamanti could get his Fiorentina debut.

Diamanti delay for Fiorentina

Fiorentina still haven’t received the international transfer from Guangzhou Evergrande for Alessandro Diamanti.

The forward has been training with his new teammates for almost a week now, but Radio Blu report he is still not technically one of their players yet.

Time is running out for the transfer to come through so he can make his debut against Chievo on Sunday afternoon.

Goalkeeper Antonio Rosati is also training with the Fiorentina squad, but red tape is holding up his confirmation from Napoli too.

Cuadrado: 'Fiorentina believe in third'

Juan Guillermo Cuadrado said Fiorentina “believe” in a Champions League spot, especially with Alessandro Diamanti.

The Colombian was linked with a Premier League move this week, but shrugged off speculation in the English media.

“I am happy in Florence and have been since the moment I got here,” he told Radioblu.

“The fans love me and always say hello in the street. It’s always exciting to score goals and I hope to continue like this.

Diamanti: ‘I can’t wait to play’

Alessandro Diamanti says he can’t wait to play, and discusses his 'strange' career as he’s officially presented as a Fiorentina player.

The midfielder has joined the Viola from Chinese Super League, and returns to the club he played for on loan in 2002-03.

“I’m ready to go,” Diamanti assured as he was presented to fans and media.

“I’m happy and I can’t wait to play. I feel at my best, all I need is matches to get back up to speed.
