Higuain back for Chievo

Milan striker Gonzalo Higuain is expected to be fit for the match with Chievo at the weekend.

The Argentinian international has missed the last two games with a muscular problem, and alternatives Fabio Borini and Patrick Cutrone are also struggling with injuries.

Now though Sky is reporting that Pipita is close a return, and will try to train with the rest of the group tomorrow.

Depending on his condition he could be ready to take on Olympiacos in the Europa League, but he should certainly be available for Chievo.

Milan Europa League fixtures

Milan begin their Europa League campaign away to Dudelange on September 20 and conclude at Olympiacos on December 13.

The draw was made today for the group phase of the tournament and the Rossoneri were placed in Group F with Betis, Dudelange and Olympiacos.

Maldini: UEFA needs Milan

Paolo Maldini believes UEFA ‘needs’ Milan and that it would be ‘absurd’ if the club prioritised Serie A or the Europa League.

Milan were reinstated in the Europa League after a successful appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport, and Maldini reacted to his club being drawn in Group F alongside Olympiacos, Real Betis and debutants Dudelange.

“It’s good to be here for the Europa League,” the Rossoneri director told Sky Sport Italia.

Official: Lazio sign Proto

Lazio have officially signed Olympiacos and Belgium international goalkeeper Silvio Proto.

The 35-year-old made the move as a free agent and put pen to paper on a three-year contract.

Proto has Italian roots and spent his entire career in Belgium save for the 2017-18 season in Greece with Olympiacos.

He underwent his medical at the Paideia clinic in Rome this morning.

The veteran will be the new understudy to Thomas Strakosha, as Federico Marchetti has joined Genoa.

Lazio close on Proto

Lazio are on the verge of securing veteran Olympiacos goalkeeper Silvio Proto, according to reports.

Calciomercatoweb.it claim that the two parties are very close to completing the transfer.

He is 35 years old and should bring valuable experience to the role of second choice goalkeeper behind Thomas Strakosha.

Proto is a Belgium international, but has an Italian passport and spent most of his career at RSC Anderlecht.

Napoli agree Milic terms

Napoli are reportedly set to sign left-back Hrvoje Milic as a free agent to the end of the season.

The Partenopei are scrambling for reinforcements after Faouzi Ghoulam suffered a new knee injury setback that will keep him out until mid-April.

Although the January transfer window is closed, they can still add free agents to the squad.

According to Calciomercato.it, a deal has been struck with Milic to join on a contract to June 2018.
