It was a day for foreigners, freak goals and free-kicks in Serie A as Dave Taylor picks his best XI from Week 5.

Although the Belgian had periods of inactivity he was always alert, especially when saving three times in quick succession from Khouma Babacar and a sensational reaction save from Alberto Aquilani’s free-kick. Not faultless for the goal but otherwise superb. Vigilant.

Damato awarded Genoa derby

Antonio Damato will be in charge of the Derby della Lanterna this weekend between Genoa and Sampdoria.

The match officials for the fifth week of Serie A have been confirmed, with Damato handed the most eye-catching clash for Sunday evening.

Fiorentina's wing and a prayer

Week 5 saw big names record first wins, but as Rob Paton discovers, it proved most significant for the emergence of one of Italy's only natural wingers.

Sinisa Mihajlovic said before Fiorentina's trip to Napoli that the performance would prove more important than the result, and in reflection following a 0-0 draw, he looks to be right.

Susy Campanale rounds up all the facts and stats from Week 5 of the Serie A season.

Inter notched up their first win of the campaign after four defeats and a draw in all competition. Claudio Ranieri's record of debuts is two victories and three losses between Valencia, Chelsea, Parma, Roma and Inter. His only other win as a newcomer was on September 13, 2009 when Roma won 2-1 at Siena. Inter gave away their second consecutive penalty.
