Inter sporting director Piero Ausilio provided an update on the contract talks with Lautaro Martinez and Nicolo Barella, and weighed in on two new signings.

The Nerazzurri have now officially secured their Scudetto for the 2023-24 season after beating rivals Milan in a tense 2-1 Derby della Madonnina victory on Monday night, sparking scenes of joy and anguish in the Lombardy capital.

Inter have already started to look ahead for next season, aware that important work is needed in the summer as they look to compete on multiple fronts, keen to defend their title in Serie A, complete unfinished business in the Champions League and show their best in the Club World Cup.

Ausilio on Inter transfer situation

Speaking via Gianluca Di Marzio, Ausilio first discussed Inter’s contract talks with star duo Lautaro and Barella.

“We want to close out Lautaro’s renewal by the start of next season, we absolutely want to extend it. Not just Lautaro, so I’ll give you more news… but we also want to conclude Nicolo Barella’s new contract soon.”

The Inter sporting director then spoke about the imminent arrivals of Piotr Zielinski and Mehdi Taremi.

“We have already done something. We made a mistake in doing them too quickly, now everyone is waiting for more, but it seems like we’ve already done a couple…”

Finally, Ausilio discussed the Nerazzurri’s collective work in the transfer market.

“We must maintain a certain balance. We have always talked about sustainability, there is nothing wrong with starting the season with this situation.

“We have shown this year that with ideas and work we can do great things. Thuram is an example. We noticed him two years ago, then thanks to the work of the scouts there is a lot of work behind it.”
