La Gazzetta dello Sport analyses Real Madrid’s win over Manchester City, suggesting that the ‘immortal’ Carlo Ancelotti qualified for another Champions League semifinal by adopting Diego Simeone’s tactics.

Ancelotti qualified for the Champions League semifinal for the 10th time in his career on Wednesday, seeing his Real Madrid side beat Manchester City on penalties at the Etihad Stadium after a 4-4 aggregate draw.

Real Madrid took an early lead with Brazilian star Rodrygo, but Manchester City levelled the score with Kevin de Bruyne in the second half and dominated possession.

This prompted Gazzetta to ask whether “Ancelotti or Cholo” Simeone turned up on the Merengues’ bench

“100 minutes with a defensive block thanks to Rodrygo’s early opener, but Ancelotti studied Man City and blocked every avenue towards the goal,” noted journalist Alex Frosio.

“Another semifinal for the immortal Carletto.”

The Italian tactician is the first one to have eliminated Guardiola in three different competitions of the Champions League and will meet his former club, Bayern Munich, in the semifinals.

Ancelotti has won the Champions League four times in his career, more than any other coach, twice with Milan and twice with Real Madrid.
