Agent: 'Napoli lead for Torreira'

“Inter are very interested in Lucas Torreira, but Napoli are in the lead and made a good proposal,” said the Sampdoria midfielder’s agent.

The 22-year-old has just received his first senior call-up for Uruguay and is expected to move on in the summer.

“Inter are very interested in Lucas, but at the moment Napoli are in the lead,” agent Pablo Bentancur told FCInter1908.it.

“The Azzurri moved early to start negotiations and made us a good proposal.”

Torreira gets first Uruguay call

Sampdoria midfielder Lucas Torreira has received his first senior Uruguay call-up from Coach Oscar Washington Tabarez.

He turned 22 last month and has been a sensation at Samp, putting together four goals and an assist in 26 Serie A games this season.

Torreira has been linked with numerous top clubs, including Juventus, Napoli, Inter, Barcelona, Roma and Liverpool.

Despite that form, this is his first senior call-up for Uruguay, who will take part in the China Cup at the end of this month.

Caceres eyes long Lazio stay

Martin Caceres wants to stay at Lazio beyond the end of his current short-term deal at the club.

The Uruguayan defender joined the Biancocelesti from Verona in January’s transfer window on a contract until the end of the season.

And speaking to Sport 890, the former Juventus centre-back admitted he is enjoying his time back in Italy far more than his spell in England, where he made just one appearance for Southampton.

“In five months I have played a lot in Italy with Verona,” Caceres began.

Lemos: 'Serie A perfect for defenders'

Uruguay international Mauricio Lemos explains why he left Las Palmas for Sassuolo. “Serie A is the perfect place for a defender to improve.”

The 22-year-old centre-back was a surprise January signing, as he also fielded offers from other European clubs, including Genoa.

“I come here to grow and improve. I no longer felt at ease in Spain and had to take this opportunity to sign for Sassuolo, as Serie A is the perfect place for a defender to improve,” said Lemos in his presentation Press conference.

Report: Lemos to Sassuolo done deal

Sky Sport Italia are reporting that Sassuolo have clinched their deal for Las Palmas defender Mauricio Lemos, despite competition from Genoa.

The centre-back is expected to arrive in Italy on Monday or Tuesday for his medical.

The transfer will be a loan with option to buy at the end of the season.

It’s reported the 22-year-old Uruguay international has chosen Sassuolo, although Genoa did push to the end in order to change his mind.

Bentancur: ‘Italy made Buffon ill!’

Juventus midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur says Gianluigi Buffon was “physically ill” after Italy failed to qualify for the World Cup.

The Azzurri were beaten by Sweden in the play-offs, meaning they won’t be in Russia this summer.

Buffon had planned to end his career at the tournament, and his Uruguayan teammate says the goalkeeper took the elimination badly.

Barcelona star Luis Suarez says he was ‘surprised’ by fellow Uruguayan Lucas Torreira and has tipped the Sampdoria midfielder for a bright future.

Suarez faced Torreira for the first time during Barca’s 3-2 win against Sampdoria for the Gamper Trophy last summer, and the former Liverpool striker confessed he was taken aback by the 21-year-old.

Caceres misses Uruguay double header

Verona’s Martin Caceres has not joined up with the Uruguay squad for their friendlies with Poland and Austria after picking up an injury.

The 30-year-old was substituted after 55 minutes of the Scaligeri’s 2-1 defeat at Cagliari yesterday, with scans later revealing he had sustained fatigue in a thigh muscle.

As such, it was decided that the defender would remain with his club side in order to recover during the international break.
