Italy's new Nations League schedule

Italy will kick off their 2020-21 Nations League campaign on September 4 against Bosnia-Herzegovina.

Italy are in Group A with Netherlands, Poland and Bosnia.

They get started against Bosnia on September 4, before travelling to Netherlands three days later.

The Azzurri then host Poland on October 11 and the Dutch on October 14.

They conclude their group campaign with the visit of Poland on November 15 and a trip to Bosnia 72 hours later.

All their matches take place at 20:45 local time (19:45 BST).

Poland and Denmark set to resume

More and more countries are opening up their football after the COVID-19 pandemic, as Poland announce they should start playing on May 27, with Denmark on May 29.

The sport has been shut down for over six weeks, but as the curve is flattening through much of continental Europe, plans are developed to resume the season.

The latest developments come from Poland, as President of the Polish Football Federation – and former Juventus player – Zibi Boniek announced important news.

Poland to resume games, Montpellier player in coma

The Polish Ekstraklasa league has been given the all-clear to resume with games behind closed doors at the end of May, but Ligue 1 have Montpellier player Junior Sambia in a coma with COVID-19.

The pandemic shut down football all over Europe just over a month ago, but has developed in different ways across various countries.

Many are now moving towards Phase 2, easing the lockdown measures, and that means the ability to resume training and play games.

Report: New Napoli deal for Zielinski

As Poland star Arkadiusz Milik seems set to leave, Napoli are reportedly one step away from renewing with his compatriot Piotr Zielinski.

Il Mattino claims the two Poland internationals at the San Paolo are heading in opposite directions, with Zielinski close to agreeing new terms with the Partenopei.

Milik has been linked with a move away from the Azzurri and the striker has lately been targeted by both Milan in Serie A and Atletico Madrid in La Liga.

'Genoa nearly signed Lewandowski'

Former Genoa sporting director Stefano Capozucca has confessed that he almost signed Robert Lewandowski in 2010.

Lewandowski was still playing in his native Poland for Lech Poznan at the time, and Capozucca claims he was Genoa’s until President Enrico Preziosi ‘pulled the plug’.

“The deal was done for Lewandowski in 2010,” he told Radio Sportiva.

“[Gian Piero] Gasperini knew him well. He still had to undergo a medical, but then the President pulled the plug.”

Milik's restaurant cooks for the hospitals

Napoli forward Arkadiusz Milik has made his restaurant in Katowice available to cook, pack and ship food to the hospitals in the city where he grew up.

The Poland international remains in Naples but has reached out to his hometown through the restaurant Food & Ball, where he helps provide food for the healthcare facilities across the city.

“Let’s protect health,” the message on the restaurant’s Instagram profile reads, as they continue to support those on the front lines fighting the COVID-19 pandemic every day.

Glik 'frightened' by news in Italy

Monaco defender and former Torino star Kamil Glik has admitted he follows the “suffering” in Italy with a heavy heart. “The number of deaths is frightening”.

The 32-year-old centre-half moved to Italy in July 2010, when Palermo picked him up from Piast Gliwice for €1m.

Since then, he had a loan stint at Bari and moved to Torino in July 2011, where he spent the next five seasons. After playing 171 matches for the Granata, scoring 13 goals in the process, he was picked up by Monaco for €11m in 2016.

Boniek: 'UEFA faces big problem'

Member of UEFA's Executive Committee Zbigniew Boniek admits they are facing uncertain times and won’t be able to make a “final decision” during today’s meeting.

The Polish FA President and member of the UEFA board Boniek was interviewed by the Gazzetta dello Sport and that the organisation can "only discuss hypotheses" during their conference call today.

Nations League: Italy fixture list

Italy will begin their Nations League campaign against Bosnia-Herzegovina on September 4, while they face the Netherlands on September 7 and October 11.

The Azzurri were drawn in League A, Group 1 along with Holland, Poland and Bosnia-Herzegovina.

UEFA have now released the fixture list for the group and Italy will open at home against Bosnia on September 4.

That is followed by the most difficult test, a trip to the Netherlands on September 7.

They visit Poland on October 8, then welcome the Oranje on October 11.

Mancini: 'Italy play to win Nations League'

Roberto Mancini said Italy “always play to win” as they prepare for the Nations League against the Netherlands, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Poland.

The draw was made this evening and the Azzurri will be in League A, Group 1.

“Clearly, the teams were all quite strong. It’s a good group, although we can really only evaluate them after Euro 2020, as there could be a change of coach and players, so very different teams,” Mancini told Rai Sport.
