Glasgow Rangers target Bruno Alves

Glasgow Rangers have set their sights on Cagliari and Portugal defender Bruno Alves for next season.

The Scottish fallen giants have climbed their way back into the top flight after bankruptcy and are now trying to strengthen the squad to rival Celtic.

According to the Daily Express, Rangers and their new manager Pedro Caixinha believe Bruno Alves would bring valuable experience to the side.

He only joined Cagliari as a free agent last summer from Fenerbahce, fresh from winning the Euro 2016 tournament with Portugal.

As Juventus continue to extend their record run of home wins, Dave Taylor selects his best XI from Week 26.

Etrit Berisha [Atalanta]

The Lazio loanee played a big part in keeping the clean sheet despite enduring a siege towards the end. But not before he had acrobatically finger-tipped Dries Mertens’ powerful free-kick on to the crossbar, then punched away another Mertens curler away to safety. Super.

Had little to do in the first half but was kept busy in the second with a fabulous double save first from Fabio Quagliarella’s strike then Luis Muriel’s before stopping another ferocious effort from Quagliarella. Steady.

Mertens hat-trick, Dzeko sees red

Napoli star Dries Mertens bagged a hat-trick for Belgium, but Edin Dzeko was sent off as Miralem Pjanic’s free kick was deflected in Bosnia’s dramatic Greece draw.

It was a mixed bag for Serie A players in this evening’s World Cup qualifiers.

Belgium ran out with a spectacular 8-1 victory over Estonia and Mertens was the star of the show.

The Napoli talent came away with a hat-trick, although two were massive deflections, but there was no doubting the delightful chip for the third.

Rastelli plays down Cagliari season

Massimo Rastelli has moved to play down expectations for Cagliari’s season, while also confirming Bruno Alves will start against Palermo.

The Sardinians enjoyed an excellent start to life back in Serie A, including a famous win against Inter at San Siro, but have recently lost momentum with two successive defeats.

“Even for high-calibre players it isn’t easy to carry the team during difficult matches,” Rastelli said at the Press conference to preview Monday’s match with the Sicily side.
