Roma revenge for Shakhtar

Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League Round of 16 is an opportunity for Roma and even Napoli to take revenge, writes Giancarlo Rinaldi.

Revenge, they say, is a dish best served cold. However, it would still be at least lukewarm if Roma could strike back swiftly for Italian football in February and knock out the side that eliminated Napoli from the Champions League. That outcome alone, of course, should be warning enough for Eusebio Di Francesco’s team of the scale of the task it faces.

Gattuso best option for Milan

Limited coaching options capable of elevating the current Milan side means Gennaro Gattuso is the best fit moving forward, writes Matthew Santangelo.

Since talk of Vincenzo Montella’s sacking came about just a few months into the current campaign, there was plenty of discussion about a “what if” scenario the Milan ownership were likely to face should change be necessary.

Napoli make new Chiesa bid

Napoli will use their game against Fiorentina to make another approach for Federico Chiesa, but the winger is valued at €60m.

The two teams face off on Sunday and Partenopei President Aurelio De Laurentiis has made no secret of his attempts to sign Chiesa.

According to the Corriere dello Sport, this match will give ADL the opportunity to ask yet again.

The 20-year-old only signed a new contract with the Viola last month and his price-tag has therefore sky-rocketed even higher to around €60m.

Simeone makes Roma admission

Diego Simeone claims Atletico Madrid picking up less points against Qarabag than Roma in the Champions League shows “how wonderful football can be.”

Atleti dropped into the Europa League for the first time under Simeone on Tuesday as their 1-1 draw with Chelsea was bettered by Roma’s 1-0 victory over Qarabag, and Simeone was perplexed by how his side performed better against Group C’s top team than the bottom-placed Azeris.

“It hurts because of how wonderful football can be,” the Coach said after the game.
