Nicolato: 'Kean is still just a kid'

Italy U21 Coach Paolo Nicolato prepares for Armenia and warns Moise Kean is immature. “On an emotional level, he’s still a kid.”

The Azzurrini won their first qualifier for the 2021 European Championships, then drew 0-0 away to the Republic of Ireland, so the pressure is on for tomorrow’s trip to Armenia.

U21: Kean sees red in Ireland

Moise Kean came off the bench and saw red in an ill-tempered and often ugly 0-0 draw between Italy U21s and the Republic of Ireland, with both teams down to 10 men.

The hosts had already won their three games so far in the European Under-21 Championship qualifying group, while the Azzurrini beat Luxembourg 5-0 in their only match.

Troy Parrott was fortunate to only get a yellow card for his awful studs-up tackle on Sandro Tonali’s ankle just 12 minutes in, but there is no VAR at this level.

Probable line-ups: Ireland U21-Italy U21

Italy Under-21s are expected to line up with Premier League starlets Patrick Cutrone and Moise Kean against Republic of Ireland this evening.

Kean is once more with the Azzurrini and should keep his place on the left wing, with Cutrone replacing Andrea Pinamonti through the middle.

On the right, Fiorentina’s Andrea Sottil should get the nod over Ascoli forward Gianluca Scamacca.

U21: Nicolato respects Ireland

Italy U21 Coach Paolo Nicolato expects a tough test against group leaders the Republic of Ireland, but “we want attacking football and possession.”

The Azzurrini visit Dublin on Thursday at 20.05 UK time and due to a complex schedule, this is only their second game in Group 1, the qualifiers for the 2021 European Under-21 Championship.

Ireland have won all three of their matches so far and lead the group, followed by Iceland with six points from two and Italy on three points.
