Napoli: 'Mertens announcement soon'

Napoli will announce a new contract with Dries Mertens very soon, confirms director of sport Cristiano Giuntoli, but Jose Callejon ‘hasn’t decided yet.’

Both are due to become free agents when their deals expire on June 30, but at least one of the old guard is remaining at the Stadio San Paolo.

“Mertens showed how much he cares about this jersey and we will announce the contract renewal very soon,” Giuntoli told Sky Sport Italia.

Capello: 'Sarri is Total Football'

Fabio Capello agrees with the Matthijs de Ligt suggestion that Juventus coach Maurizio Sarri is ‘the closest Italian equivalent to Dutch Total Football.’

Former Ajax defender De Ligt made the comparison this week, praising Sarri for the tactical approach to the sport.

“If De Ligt says it, then who am I to contradict him?” noted Capello in Tuttosport newspaper.

Spain, not Roma, for Pedro?

Roma target Pedro has been offered to Spanish sides, amidst fresh speculation the Chelsea winger wants to return to his homeland.

Roma seemed to be closing in on a free transfer for Pedro, with various reports stating they were his preferred destination.

However, Superdeporte is now claiming the former Barcelona ace ‘has the desire’ to play in La Liga again after five years in England.

With that in mind, he would have been offered to the likes of Valencia, Sevilla and Real Betis.

RB Leipzig: 'No Werner deal yet'

Inter and Juventus transfer target Timo Werner is not yet a Chelsea player, assures RB Leipzig director Oliver Mintzlaff. ‘He has not activated the clause and we haven’t had any contact.’

The forward has a release clause worth €60m, which favourites Liverpool were unwilling to pay, allowing Chelsea to step in over the last few days.

Multiple reports stated the deal was done, but RB Leipzig director Mintzlaff told Sky Sports Deutschland that was premature.

Atalanta to purchase Pasalic

Atalanta are set to activate their €15m purchase option for Chelsea-owned midfielder Mario Pasalic.

He has been on loan for two seasons in Bergamo and done enough to secure a permanent transfer to the Serie A surprise outfit.

Multiple sources are confident the club will use its option to buy for €15m, in addition to the €2.5m paid for the two-year loan deal.

Although Chelsea purchased Pasalic from Hajduk Split for €2.5m in 2014, he never made a single competitive appearance for the club.

Arthur to change mind on Juventus?

Tuttosport claim Arthur Melo could still change his mind about joining Juventus in a straight swap with Miralem Pjanic going to Barcelona.

It has been suggested by multiple sources over the last few weeks that the deal was practically done until Arthur refused to leave Camp Nou.

The Bianconeri and Blaugrana have both been working behind the scenes to convince him and, according to Tuttosport, it might be making an impact at last.

Napoli: 'Boga would be useful'

Napoli director Cristiano Giuntoli admits Sassuolo talent Jeremie Boga ‘would be very useful’ for the Partenopei, but also for many other clubs.

The attacking wide man has really found his feet at Sassuolo this season and Chelsea do not seem intent on activating their buy-back clause.

Inter, Juventus, Lazio, Roma, Milan and Napoli are all interested within Serie A, not to mention Premier League and Bundesliga options.

Bild: Werner set for Chelsea

German newspaper Bild claims that Chelsea are on the verge of signing Timo Werner from RB Leipzig, beating Inter, Juventus and Liverpool.

The 24-year-old striker has a €60m release clause in his contract, so it’s a matter of who is willing to offer the best personal terms and sporting project.

Liverpool had been the favourites for weeks, but are seemingly unwilling to pay the full release clause.

Jorginho is Juve's missing piece

As talk of a Jorginho-Federico Bernardeschi swap hots up, Livio Caferoglu explains why the deal would suit both Juventus and Chelsea.

The bubble seems to have finally burst in football, with big-money transfers set to make way for player swaps in the post-pandemic age. Juventus are likely to be at the forefront, given their dire need to streamline a squad with no shortage of deadwood and find the missing piece to their midfield jigsaw. Both factors explain why they are so keen to bring in Jorginho from Chelsea, even if it means giving up on Federico Bernardeschi.
