‘Montolivo much better than Jorginho’

Riccardo Montolivo’s agent claims the Milan outcast is a ‘much better’ fit in Italy’s midfield than Jorginho.

Montolivo is unlikely to stay at Milan beyond next summer, when his contract expires, while he is not thought to be in Gennaro Gattuso’s plans for the Rossoneri.

Nonetheless, Giovanni Branchini told Corriere dello Sport: “If you must play this Jorginho in the national team then I say that my Montolivo, who has scandalously been ousted, is much better.”

Joining him in the stands are Alessio Cragno, Daniele Rugani and Nicolo Zaniolo, plus fellow starters Cristiano Biraghi, Davide Zappacosta and Lorenzo Pellegrini.

Would Chiesa favour Milan?

If Federico Chiesa were to leave Fiorentina, he’d lean more towards Milan than Juventus, Inter, Napoli or a move abroad, it’s reported.

The winger turns 21 next month and has already attracted huge offers in the region of €50m.

His value continues to rise, as he is pushing his way into the starting XI for Italy as well.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, his first option were he to leave Florence would be Milan.

This is because the Chiesa family feel this is the better environment for him to play regularly and develop.

Chiellini: 'Jorginho fundamental'

Giorgio Chiellini said Jorginho is “fundamental” for this new Italy side and asked for “patience, as it’s damaging to pass judgment now.”

The Juventus defender spoke to La Stampa newspaper after a 1-1 Nations League draw with Poland, as they continue their campaign in Portugal tomorrow evening.

“It’s a logical consequence of the generational shift that Italy aren’t quite gelling yet. Anything contrary to that would be very surprising,” insisted Chiellini.

According to Calciomercato.com, that will prompt Sarri to push once again in January for Italian reinforcements at the back.
