De Biasi: 'Intense experience in Albania'

Gianni De Biasi says it was an ‘intense experience’ to coach Albania and reveals he ‘lacked motivation’ after five and a half years.

The former Brescia boss took Albania to Euro 2016, their first ever major tournament, and was fighting with Spain and Italy for a place in the 2018 World Cup.

But he left with four games remaining and wanted to give the new coach an opportunity to get a head start before the inaugural UEFA Nations League.

Verona defender Marash Kumbulla says Giorgio Chiellini is his idol and that he is ‘proud’ of the help Albania has given to Italy during the COVID-19 outbreak.

Juventus are among the clubs to have been linked with Kumbulla in recent months, and the 20-year-old made no secret of his admiration for their captain.

“As a young lad, I had a poster of Chiellini in my bedroom,” he told Corriere della Sera.

“I’ve always admired his determination and desire to improve. He’s a real warrior on the field.

Serbian fans wreck Brescia friendly

Brescia saw their friendly against Vojvodina abandoned during the second half after Serbian fans staged a pitch invasion to confront Albanian protesters.

The incident occurred in today’s game, which had been organised during the break for international duty.

Brescia were leading 2-1 with Alfredo Donnarumma and Davide Bisoli on target for the Italians, although there had already been problems in the first half when Vojvodina temporarily walked off in protest after their Coach was red carded for dissent.

Hysaj has fractured sternum

Napoli have confirmed Albania international Elseid Hysaj suffered a fractured sternum during today’s 0-0 draw with Torino.

The defender was stretchered off at the Stadio Olimpico Grande Torino after a very awkward fall in a collision with Cristian Ansaldi.

He fell upside down on to the back of his neck and the initial diagnosis was ‘chest bruising.’

However, that was updated following an X-Ray, which found a parcellar fracture of the sternum.

It remains to be seen how long this will keep Hysaj out of action for.

Euro 2020 round-up

It was an early Fiorentina-Juventus in Belgrade, as Nikola Milenkovic and Cristiano Ronaldo were on target as Portugal beat Serbia 4-2.

The Euro 2020 qualifier makes it now very difficult for Serbia to reach the tournament, as Ukraine are top of Group B with 13 points in five games.

Portugal picked up a 3-1 victory in Serbia with William Carvalho making the most of a comical goalkeeping error, then Goncalo Guedes drilling home.

Fiorentina defender Milenkovic was given acres of space for a free header on a corner to spark the comeback.
