Moratti: Real? No thanks!

Inter President Massimo Moratti is hoping to avoid Real Madrid in the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

The draw for the last eight of the competition takes place later this morning and there is a possibility that Inter could get Real, now bossed by Jose Mourinho.

"Real Madrid in the next round? No, I hope we get drawn against a different side," the Nerazzurri chief noted.

"I don't know who I'd like to play, but it is necessary to always have an opponent in front of you who motivates you.

CL: Inter host Schalke in quarter-final

The draw for the Champions League quarter-final has pitted Inter against Bundesliga side Schalke.

Leonardo's side did a remarkable job to get to this stage, overturning a 1-0 defeat suffered at home to Bayern Munich with a thrilling late 3-2 win at the Allianz Arena on Tuesday.

Earlier today, Inter President Massimo Moratti said he would like to avoid Real Madrid and by the same token a rematch with former boss Jose Mourinho.

Meanwhile the Inter players expressed a desire to draw another German side, this time Schalke.

Figo happy with draw

Inter's ambassador Luis Figo has expressed the club's delight at drawing Schalke in the Champions League quarter-finals.

The holders had hoped for a return to Germany, as Schalke are in crisis following the sacking Felix Magath this week.

However, Figo was mainly pleased because Inter's side of the draw is favourable to their progress to the Final at Wembley.

If Inter overcome Schalke they will face either Chelsea or Manchester United in the semi-final.

Pagliuca backs Inter

Former goalkeeper Gianluca Pagliuca has backed Inter to knock out Schalke and reach the Champions League semi-finals.

Inter are said to be very confident of making the last four of the competition after this afternoon's draw.

"I believe that it couldn't have gone any better for Inter," Pagliuca said. "It's certainly a favourable draw because the Germans are inferior to the Nerazzurri."

Pagliuca was a member of the Inter side that lost to Schalke in the 1997 UEFA Cup Final.

Lucio: 'We knew Bayern weakness'

Inter defender Lucio explained how his men completed the turnaround against his former club, Bayern Munich.

“After seeing Bayern miss so many chances, we told ourselves that qualification was not lost,” he told Tz.

“We thought an equaliser on the night would've given us hope for a final push and that proved to be the case.

“Of course, we hit Bayern in their weak spot. We knew their defence wasn't of a good level and made the most of our scoring opportunities.”

Inter walking tall

Courage, fortune, pride, ability and awesomeness. Antonio Labbate reflects on Inter's unforgettable night in the Champions League

Racked with guilt after his late fumble allowed Mario Gomez to net the winning goal, Julio Cesar walked home following the first leg defeat to Bayern Munich. He was ready to do the same last night when, just 21 minutes in, Gomez again capitalised on a goalkeeping error to scoop in an equaliser which potentially could have ended Inter's Champions League dream.

Cambiasso: 'Inter have heart'

Esteban Cambiasso insists Inter feel “great satisfaction, having got this tie back on track with heart” at the Allianz Arena.

Before tonight's turnaround in Munich, only one team had ever overcome a first leg home defeat to qualify in the Champions League – Louis Van Gaal's Ajax fighting back against Panathinaikos to reach the 1995-96 semi-final.

“We feel great satisfaction, as we approached this game with the belief we could do it,” he said of their 3-2 victory.

Moratti: 'God of Football is strange'

Inter President Massimo Moratti hailed the turnaround in Munich. “The God of Football is strange...”

The reigning Champions League holders were crashing out of the competition after trailing 3-1 on aggregate at half-time, but came back to beat Bayern 3-2 on the night, going through on away goals.

“It was such an odd game, as it had so many different moments. It felt safe, then dangerous,” said Moratti.

“In the second half we controlled the tempo well and from there the team felt secure enough to go for the victory.”

Leo: 'Can't explain: only experience'

Leonardo was emotionally and physically exhausted after Inter's 3-2 victory. “This game cannot be explained: only experienced. It's symbolic of Inter.”

The Nerazzurri looked to be out of the Champions League when trailing 2-1 at half-time to Bayern Munich, 3-1 on aggregate, but fought back to go through on away goals.

“I am wrecked! They even did a tackle from behind with that third goal to really kill me off,” joked the Coach.
