Jose Mourinho lashed out at former club Roma and director Tiago Pinto. ‘It’s difficult to understand how a coach reaches two European Finals and is fired.’

The coach was sacked in mid-January, just days after declaring he wanted to stay with the Giallorossi for many years, beyond the natural termination of his contract in June 2024.

Not only did the club not offer him a new deal, but dismissed him to bring in former captain Daniele De Rossi and the results have gone from strength to strength.

“It is difficult to understand how a coach who reaches two European Finals in a row is fired,” Mourinho told Sport TV while attending the MotoGP in Portimao.

The Special One lifted the Conference League in 2022, then reached the Final of the Europa League in 2023, losing on penalties to Sevilla.

He also lashed out at director Tiago Pinto, who gave an interview on Sky Sport Italia this week insisting he felt terrible when having to give the news of the dismissal.

“Interviews with Mr Tiago Pinto, honestly, I won’t waste a second of my time reading or listening to it, I have no interest at all in what he has to say,” added Mourinho.

“What you say he tells me, it makes no difference. I have no interest at all.”

Would Mourinho work with Tiago Pinto again at a different club?

“No, certainly not. Sometimes things lead us to think they are possible, but in this case, it is definitely not possible.”

  1. Brought to get Roma in the top 4. The first two seasons finished #6 with 63 points. The third season was on the way to finishing #9-11 with 55 points. Two finals? Three failures to reach the seasonal goal.

  2. Not good enough to rotate a squad, and couldn’t get close to top 4… not to mention presenting unwatchable football. GOOD RIDDANCE!!!

  3. The reason why some clubs don’t grow is the lack of loyalty…over the years they remain in the same spot cos they fail to remain loyal to the individuals that stand by them…if Mourinho was to leave then the club should have waited until the end of the season even Bayern Munich understand this method and it keeps good relationship

  4. Firing Mourinho the way Roma did is very detesting, he was the best they had through years of losses over losses.
The Coach built the team, you could see Roma playing to win, he built courage among players.
Today is De Rossi all over, but overalls what good did De Rossi bring except promoting Mourinho players?
Roma could have thought thrice before Firing Mourinho the way they did, and they eagerly wanted to chase him away they could have done it a smart way whereby the coach remain happy with the team

  5. it was cruel, harsh and wicked to have sacked MOURINHO. How can u sack a coach who reached the finals of two EUROPEAN CUPS consecutively. ROMA have brought a curse upon itself.
