UEFA to set July 31 deadline

UEFA and the ECA have reportedly agreed to terminate domestic leagues by the end of July, leaving August clear for the Champions and Europa Leagues.

According to Spanish newspaper AS, the European Club Association has committed to ensuring all the domestic league campaigns have come to a natural conclusion by July 31.

This would then leave August for the remaining Champions League and Europa League fixtures.

The only Serie A clubs still involved in Europe at that stage would be Juventus, Napoli, Atalanta, Inter and Roma.

UEFA discuss 'calendar options'

UEFA held a meeting with its 55 member associations to discuss the ‘calendar options’ for completing the 2019-20 season, opening up to ‘special cases’ who could terminate early.

The sport has been shut down for over a month now due to the COVID-19 pandemic and plans are being worked out for how to resume.

It’s widely believed the most popular idea is to finish the domestic league seasons first, then play the Champions League and Europa League in August.

Ceferin: 'It's too early to cancel season'

UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin insists he’s not prepared to throw in the towel and prepares to ‘wait until we are ready to play’.

The daily debate about the resumption of football has led to numerous hypotheses but the UEFA chief has claimed they are ‘evaluating a series of options’ to resume play.

But Ceferin has also suggested that they can’t wait until late 2020 to conclude the current campaign, as it would have a negative affect on the next season.

Report: Cagliari want Liverani

Cagliari are reportedly looking to appoint Lecce’s Fabio Liverani as their coach for next season.

Cagliari started the 2019-20 campaign strongly and looked like competing for a European spot at one stage.

However, their form nosedived and Rolando Maran was sacked to make way for Walter Zenga.

Zenga was only hired on March 3 and the coronavirus pandemic has prevented him from debuting in the dugout.

Now, Sky Sport Italia claims the journeyman could already be replaced by Liverani, without presiding over a single match.
