Official: Udinese sell Perica to Watford

Udinese have officially sold striker Stipe Perica to Watford after a series of loan spells.

The 25-year-old Croatian was purchased from Chelsea in 2016 for €4.5m, but never made much of an impact in Friuli.

He was sent out on loan to Frosinone, Kasimpasa and Mouscron.

After 71 games for Udinese, scoring 11 goals in all competition, Perica was sold to Watford this evening.

The news was confirmed in a statement released by the Serie A club.

Udinese fans urge Pozzo to sell

Udinese are ready to start pre-season training, but their fans put up a banner urging the Pozzo family to sell up, as ‘since Watford it’s been seven years of failure.’

The ultras have often accused the Pozzo family of putting more time and money into their Watford FC project than Udinese, although that could well change following the relegation from the Premier League.

The Friulani narrowly avoided the drop again this season and a printed banner was placed outside the Dacia Arena this morning.

Although Cristiano Lucarelli was linked with the job of director of sport in the English media, multiple Italian sources are confident he’ll be the coach of Trapani next term instead.

Now Tuttomercatoweb have identified Giaretta as one of the main candidates to take over at Watford.

Udinese: 'Take responsibility off clubs'

Udinese and Watford patron Gianpaolo Pozzo has written to the Italian Minister for Sport asking for ‘ad hoc legislation to take some of the responsibility’ off clubs and medics.

The medical protocol was agreed with the Lega Serie A and Government today, so group training can start on Monday, with a plan to begin games from June 13.

However, some issues remain with the protocol, as the club medic would be considered liable if any player tested positive for COVID-19.
