Rizzoli to ref Roma-Juventus

World Cup final referee Nicola Rizzoli will take charge of Sunday’s Serie A showdown between Roma and Juventus.

The top two from last season meet in only the second round of the league season, with the match set to kick off at 17:00 UK time at the Stadio Olimpico.

Lega Serie A have announced that the experienced Rizzoli will take charge of the encounter, which was resulted in some fiery clashes last term.

Rizzoli for Rome derby

Nicola Rizzoli will be the referee for Monday’s rescheduled Rome derby, it has been announced.

Lazio and Roma meet at 5pm in a match which could prove crucial for the Champions League race, with the game moved from Sunday afternoon due to the Coppa Italia final.

The Biancocelesti lost that match, but could secure Champions League football by beating their city rivals in the Derby della Capitale.

Rizzoli to whistle Roma-Napoli

Nicola Rizzoli will officiate Week 29's big match Roma-Napoli, with Daniele Doveri handling Palermo-Milan.

The Derby del Sole at the Olimpico is bound to be just as hot as its nickname suggests given the rivalry between the teams, and it will be handled by Italy’s World Cup Final referee, Rizzoli.

Elsewhere, Doveri has been assigned to Palermo-Milan, with Paolo Tagliavento rested after a controversial penalty assigned to the Rossoneri in their last game against Cagliari.

Rizzoli: 'Napoli disrespectful'

Referee Nicola Rizzoli said Napoli’s vocal criticism of the official against Atalanta was “disrespectful.”

“It is shameful!” wrote Napoli on their Twitter feed straight after the 1-1 draw on Sunday night.

“Tavecchio cannot lose his credibility in this way. The refereeing was not suited to Serie A and falsified the League.

“In England this would not have happened.”

Rocchi: I could have done better

Gianluca Rocchi admits he could have handled Roma’s controversial 3-2 defeat to Juventus better, but is adamant it won’t affect his career.

The official was criticised heavily for some of his decisions in the match, a game in which he awarded three penalties and sent off two players.

Rizzoli for Milan-Juventus

Nicola Rizzoli will officiaite Milan’s top-of-the-table clash with Juventus at San Siro on Saturday night.

The World Cup Final referee has been named today at the designated official for Week 3’s headline match, and it will be the fifth time in his career that he will have refereed this particular clash.

Both sides have two wins apiece with Rizzoli as the man in charge, but not without controversy. The 42-year-old was in charge in 2012 when a controversially awarded penalty saw the Rossoneri defeat the Bianonceri 1-0.

Italian referees have announced more protection for goalkeepers, the vanishing spray and a clampdown on racism.

The AIA (Italian Referees’ Association) had its get-together at Sportilia and discussed the common approaches they will take in Serie A, B and Lega Pro this season.

World Cup Final referee Nicola Rizzoli welcomes the ‘vanishing spray’ to Serie A, but has an issue with goal-line technology.

On Friday it was officially confirmed that Serie A, B and Lega Pro would all use the vanishing spray system from this season.

‘Kramer asked me: Is this the final?’

Nicola Rizzoli has lifted the lid on a confused Christoph Kramer and explained how he found out he’d be officiating the 2014 World Cup Final.

The Serie A official was handed the honour of refereeing Germany’s eventual extra-time win over Argentina in Rio de Janeiro, in a game that wasn’t without incident.

One of those in the first half involved 23-year-old Kramer having to be substituted soon after being caught in the head following a collision with Ezequiel Garay.
