De Sciglio: ‘Milan deserved to win’

Mattia De Sciglio insists Milan ‘deserved to win’ the Derby della Madonnina on Sunday night.

The Rossoneri were defeated 1-0 by city rivals Inter, but the Italian international believes the result was not a fair reflection of the match.

“Losing the derby like that left us with huge disappointment in terms of the result,” De Sciglio admitted in an interview with Milan Channel.

“In terms of the play, I think we deserved to win. Unfortunately derby games are like that, and it takes just a single episode to decide the game.

Gerrard: ‘Balotelli won’t be a top player’

Steven Gerrard believes Mario Balotelli ‘is very talented with the potential to be world class, but he’ll never get there’.

The Milan striker spent last season with the English midfielder at Liverpool, and while the LA Galaxy man appreciates Balotelli has talent, he does not see a way for him to become one of the world’s best.

The former Reds captain’s new autobiography is being serialised in the Daily Mail, and he discussed the Italian international after naming El-Hadji Diouf as one of his least favourite teammates.

Milan derby returns to centre stage

This early season Derby della Madonnina showed how both Milan clubs have progressed over the summer, writes Richard Hall.

Last April the Milan Derby looked like a shadow of its former self. The players that took to the field had performed miserably for both teams during the season and the fixture held little significance. There was no title challenge to play for, no race for the Champions League spots, it was a disappointment. The fact that La Gazzetta Dello Sport claimed that the only thing worth noting, was that it would be the last Derby where one would not have to make the long walk from the metro line, as a new one would be installed for this season said it all.

Handanovic: 'Tough save on Balotelli'

Inter goalkeeper Samir Handanovic described his derby-winning save on Milan striker Mario Balotelli.

The 1-0 result was decided by a Fredy Guarin strike, but Handanovic also had to palm a long-range free kick off the line.

“That was the toughest save, as it was unpredictable. It bounced on the turf and then started veering to the right,” Handanovic told Sky Sport Italia.

“It was overall a pretty even match and I think the two teams were on a par tonight.
